Abstract

Trying to get closer to the spirit, which is the purpose of this brief writing, has much of this Zen story about a fish that swam desperately to reach the ocean where it was from, or also of the Buddhist teaching that “awakening” or “enlightenment” is not achieved because it is already our native condition. There are those who raise their eyebrows when hearing the word “spirit” and they are well reasoned. You may relate the word spirit to some entity, soul, angel, paranormal dimension or superterrestrial being. As today the term “spirituality” is quite popular, and it is often presented as “spiritual” - what is something like magic and witchcraft (techniques to dominate spirits, control the future, avoid diseases, etc.)- misunderstandings comes up. Then, we will begin our journey with what is usually understood today as spirituality to see if we can go back to something that we can properly call “spirit”, and if it exists or occurs in some way.
