Abstract

In the Sciences of Religions, it has been understood that religion turns around the concepts of the sacred or holiness. This paper shows how the concept of the sacred has been studied together with others as taboo and purity, from the modern origins of the Sciences of Religion. However, in the classical Latin world, however, the concept of sacred was progressively disconnected from the religious context to get into the field of Law, in a clear process in which sacredness is no longer defined by the relationship with the gods, but by the legal frame stated by laws.
