Seguint les petjades del llebrer: la dimensió social en la divina comèdia
Following in the footsteps of the greyhound: the social dimension in the divine comedy
Abstract
This paper has three parts. In the first part, the Dantean statements about the purpose of the Divina Comedia are transcribed, showing the relevance of its ethical and political meaning, and the relationship between this meaning and the conclusion of De Monarchia. The second part deals with the issue of the symbolic values in the allegorical dimension of the Poem, and we also did a
textual analysis of InfernoI, 88-111. This textual analysis stresses the opposition between the symbols of the wolf and the greyhound. Finally, in the third part, contemporary interpretations of the so-called “the Greyhound enigma” are revisited. We have divided them into six classes: geographical, imperial, elective, Franciscan, Joachimite, and astrological.
